Unfortunately, only microscopic quantities (approximately 60 cases) of this wine make it to the United States. Vatan is one of the legends of the Sancerre. His very old vines and tiny yields of 35-40 hectoliters per hectare (just over two tons per acre) from tightly spaced vines turn out a fabulously fragrant, flinty, herbal, melony wine that represents the essence of Sauvignon. There is crisp acidity and gobs of flavor, but the magic lies in having produced such richness and intensity in a wine that tastes light to medium-bodied. It is a stunning Sancerre.”
