2015 Pax Wine Cellars 'The Vicar' Grenache North Coast
Winemaker Notes: The Vicar is our ode to the great rustic wines of the southern Rhone Valley. We named the Vicar after the man that loaned his title to that region's most famous appellation. Chateauneuf-du-pape is all about Grenache and this Classic blend of Grenache from Alder Springs & Castelli-Knight Ranch has a wild purity to it that is irresistible. We cofermented a bit of Syrah with the Castelli Grenache so there is a dark spicy core, but really this wine is all about the wild side of Grenache.
Tasting Notes: Intensely red fruit driven with wild aromas of white flowers, game, forest floor and tiny red berries. The palate is medium-full with zesty red fruit. With air the fruit becomes supple and heady and evokes preserves and baked summer fruits. This 2015 has a vivid purity of flavor that captures the wildness of Grenache in a low yielding vintage.
Vinous - "The 2015 The Vicar, Pax's entry-level, Grenache, is terrific. Pliant, supple and nuanced, the 2015 offers lovely purity of fruit in a silky, mid-weight, refreshing style that is ideal for drinking now and over the next few years, while the fruit remains fresh and vibrant. In 2015, the Vicar is equal parts Castelli-Knight Ranch and Alder Springs Grenache, vinified with 100% whole clusters."
