2013 Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1.5L
This is another killer effort from Spottswoode. Upon release, Spottswoode shows well but in time, like Abreu (interesting to note, they are both on St. Helena's west side going into the bench), they take on a new level of complexity. This 2013 is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot and exhibits beautiful concentration and depth. True to the classic Spottswoode style, it offers "an enticing potpourri of bakery aromas—chocolate-covered cherries, caramel, spice, coffee bean, boysenberry cream, black cherry, vanilla, crème brûlée, with hints of bay leaf and tobacco, and wonderful underlying minerality".
Robert Parker- "When the history of Napa’s great vineyards is written, the 40-acre Spottswoode Vineyard, tucked behind the quaint town of St. Helena, will be counted among the finest grand cru vineyards of the region... These are some of the most elegant, harmonious, stylish Cabernets being made in Napa. Might Spottswoode be the Château Margaux of Napa Valley?”
